Activism Experience
I got my first taste of activism as a sophomore at Churchill High School when I started a petition against the school-wide schedule change of switching from semesters to trimesters. After the change was implemented the next year, I continued to speak out about its negative impacts on student lives, particularly for those involved in the performing arts or taking AP or IB classes.
That year I also helped plan a school-wide protest against teachers getting laid off due to budget issues. The demonstration was successful in saving the job of one of the school's most beloved math teachers. |
During my first year of college at the University of Oregon, I joined the Climate Justice League (CJL), which started my involvement in environmental activism. I served as the PR Coordinator as a sophomore and the Co-Director of CJL during my junior and senior years. As a junior, I also took on the role as the Student Sustainability Network Chair, working to improve collaboration between like-minded student groups on campus, and continued this role as a senior.
In 2020, I was thrilled to join 350 Eugene as their Communications Coordinator and later as their Fossil Free Eugene Coordinator as well. In 2022, I was invited to join the Executive Committee of the Oregon Chapter of the Sierra Club, and have been working for the past year to help rebuild the chapter with an emphasis on allyship and just relationships. |
